STUDENT ATTIRE POLICY
The Academy uniform generally consists of leotards, tights or leggings, and footwear appropriate to the genre of dance for each class. All students are expected to come to class dressed as described on our poster (see here). Our uniform has been chosen to benefit our dancers in several ways:
o It limits distractions for younger dancers.
o For older dancers, it ensures that attire allows full coverage without restricting the range
of motion necessary for dance.
o It enables instructors to clearly observe students’ body placement and alignment so they
may make corrections and promote development of proper technique.
o Hairstyle guidelines ensure students’ preparedness and safety for movement.
Individual teachers may allow certain variations to the uniform for reasons including unusually
hot or cold weather or to eliminate the need for students to change clothes between classes
with different dress requirements.
A teacher who has concerns about a student’s attire may, depending on the specific issue and
the age of the student, discuss the concern directly with the student or contact a
parent/caregiver.
